About Lee

Lee Foster did not start out as a jewelry designer. Her necklace designs grew out of her love of pearl jewelry and her design training.  As an architect, recognized for her award winning design projects, she brings the same strong belief in concept, proportion and detail to her necklaces that she demonstated  in her architecture.

Lee’s necklace designs combine her understanding of design, fascination with  pearls, and knowledge of antique jewelry with a modern sensibility. Inspired by antique jewelry and luxurious freshwater pearls each necklace in her collection is handmade in her studio. Her expertise in British antique jewelry is reflected in the “fine collector quality” of the pieces she selects for Foster Rogers necklaces.  Since each charm is unique and no strand of pearls is identical, each necklace is a one of a kind statement.

“I create the kind of jewelry I want to wear - timeless pieces that are elegant and not trendy. Despite the intricacies of some of the period charms, my concept is very minimal. The antiques dictate how the necklace will evolve to showcase both the pearls and the charms to their best advantage. My goal is to create modern heirlooms - necklaces that their owners will love wearing and pass along to the next generation”.

History

Prior to designing jewelry Lee spent 25 years designing projects ranging from the Verizon headquarters to DC Metro cars. Lee’s firm, Foster-Crowder Design, produced award-winning design for hotels, corporate headquarters, historic renovations, exhibit design, condominiums, product design and furniture. Her work has been published extensively and she was featured in Women of Design, a Rizzoli book profiling 33 of the most influential woman commercial interior designers in America.

Foster Rogers Jewelry is named after Lee Foster’s maternal and paternal grandfathers –both of whom were retailers in the mid-west. Her studio is located in Washington DC.
